Graz, Austria – May 2024. ÖGB-Verlag and technology partner wirecube are launching a groundbreaking AI project to enhance the delivery of legal information to employees using advanced artificial intelligence (AI) technologies.
The initiative aims to make complex digital legal texts accessible and understandable to the general public by leveraging artificial intelligence, and thereby providing workers with clearer information about their rights.
The goal of the AI project is to transform a technology often perceived as a job threat into a valuable asset for the labor movement. Advanced language models will be used to summarize lengthy texts and simplify complex legal concepts.
The AI project is based on the latest developments in Natural Language Processing (NLP), particularly Large Language Models (LLMs). These innovative technologies, which also form the backbone of ChatGPT, are used to enhance the search and analysis of legal texts.
The AI project’s implementation serves as an example of responsible and sustainable use of AI: Its data hosting infrastructure remains exclusively in Europe, guaranteeing data sovereignty and security. At the same time, transparency, data protection, and ethics take center stage: AI-generated answers are tagged accordingly and show where used information derives from.
Work on the AI project is already underway and will proceed step by step—the goal is to present the first concrete results this year.
“Through this partnership, we aim to drive AI innovations forward and create genuine added value for users,” says Florian Becker, CEO of wirecube. “We intend to leverage our expertise in UX and AI to promote the accessibility and integration of AI technologies, and to provide intuitive, user-friendly solutions.”
“By utilizing modern AI technologies, we are pioneering innovative ways to make legal information more accessible and easier to understand for employees,” emphasizes Iris Kraßnitzer, CEO of ÖGB-Verlag. “Our central premise is to always use new technologies for the benefit of employees.”
In Austria, ÖGB-Verlag collaborates with technology partner wirecube to create portals such as oegb.at, gpa.at, and kollektivvertrag.at, providing valuable services to thousands of employees every month.
